    I am not a drinker anymore, so I usually don't hang-around them now. But I went with a friend who was supposed to be meeting someone. Whilst in the waiting zone I played a couple of patrons a round or two of pool. I ended up having an absolute splendid time. The "someone". ended up a"No-show" I'm not sure if it's like that everyday. But that day definitely gets "Two Thumbs Up!" So I would say it's OKAY to get,"SHANGHAI'D" at Kelly's

    Eh. I've heard so many cool things about Shanghai Kelly's over the years and finally decided to visit. After the standard ID check at the door, I was met with a very curt and unfriendly bartender. Any "legendary local" bar should have a friendly face on their establishment. I frequent an embarrassingly amount of bars in this city. Anyway, I ordered a beer and a shot. Took in the decor while I chatted with my friends. Then left to spend my money elsewhere. I guess this place didn't live up to the hype for me. That and the cranky lady behind the bar just didn't have me wanting more. Maybe it was an off night, maybe I was expecting too much. Regardless, 3 stars for the decor and cold beer.

    Long time staple on Polk Street. Great local ownership. Sponsor sports teams, host special events and generally make it a fun place to spend time. Bartenders are second to none. Come often so you can catch impromptu BBQ or maybe win customer of the month. These guys also own North Star in North Beach. Visit both if you have time.

    It's an awesome dive bar. Good beer on tap, good booze, just not spot to seek for high-end wine. TVs are relatively small, so only so-so for a sports bar.
